The “default” Reddit experience is valuable to many redditors, but it doesn’t help you as a marketer who is looking to engage specific audiences. Customizing your subreddit subscriptions to create a meaningful front page is the first thing you should do as a redditor.

Customizing the Front Page of Reddit

The standard front page of Reddit is what you see if you visit when you are either NOT logged in or have not updated your subreddit subscriptions. This page is the ‘hot’ content aggregated from the default subreddits. The “default” subreddits are chosen by the administrators of Reddit and are a collection of popular subreddits.

To customize the front page, start by unsubscribing from the default subreddits that do not interest you. Login to your account and hover over the “My Subreddits” link in the top left-hand corner on any page of reddit. A dropdown will appear listing your subreddit subscriptions.

Click the “Edit Subscriptions” link at the bottom of the dropdown to load the “Subreddits” page. Look for a box on the right side of this page titled, “Your Front Page Subreddits”. From this box, you can unsubscribe from any subreddits by clicking the red “unsubscribe” buttons.

Any subreddits that you unsubscribe from will no longer show up on your front page.

Finding New Subreddits

After you have unsubscribed from irrelevant default subreddits, you can replace them with subreddits that are relevant to your business and interests. Read How to Find Subreddits Related to Your Niche for a quick primer on how to customize your subreddit subscriptions in a meaningful way.

A Personalized Reddit Experience

Customizing your experience on Reddit is what makes the platform so powerful. By focusing on the subreddits that matter to you, you will be able to efficiently browse Reddit and not be distracted by useless content (there is plenty to distract you). This is especially important for marketers. The more tailored your Reddit experience is to you and your interests, the more efficient and effective you will be on the platform.
